Two New Mondo Star Trek Prints!!!

Mondo Tees have truly outdone themselves this time.  Tomorrow, at a random time, these two prints (Mirror Mirror 24 x 36 by Tomer Hanuka & The Menagerie 24 x 36 by Mike Saputo) will go on sale for $45 a piece.  You better act quickly, their last two prints for Kill Bill and Pan's Labyrinth sold out in a couple minutes and I suspect the same to happen here.  Ebay will be your next stop, but don't expect to pay anything less than 100 bucks once that happens.  Fingers crossed for all you crazed bidders out there (me included).

Oh, and they're also releasing the below print for David Cronenberg's Rabid, a film that has always held a special sick place in my heart.

Generations Cracked!

Love Star Trek?  The you must do yourself a great service and become familiar with both of Frederick McCloud's blogs.  Over on his relatively new My Star Trek Scrapbook 2, he's posted the 1994 Cracked comic strip lampooning the much maligned Star Trek: Generations.  Cracked has always kinda been the weaker version of Mad Magazine, but they get in a couple of good shots every now and again.  And I gotta say that I prefer Cracked's Generations climax much more than the film's Captain-On-The-Bridge/Bridge-On-The-Captain conclusion.

Extremely Awkward "More Power" Trek Commercial

Thanks to @StarTrekUpdate for the link to the above commercial.  I definitely don't remember seeing this bit of awkward madness before.  Kirk's under fire, gets beamed up, wacky uncomfortableness.

Okay, I'm a little late on this bit of Saint Patrick's Day silliness but couldn't stop myself from posting this Internet Crazy courtesey of Geeks of Doom.

Apparently, Night of the Living Trekkies author Kevin David Anderson sent this Holiday Greeting to the GOD staff.  If you haven't read the book, I recommend you do so.  It's kinda in the same vain as those Pride and Prejudice and Zombies books but I thought it to be far superior mondo fiction.

Zapp Brannigan!

All week, TG Daily has been listing their favorite Sci-Fi Captains.  Mal Reynolds of Firefly.  Nemo of the Nautilus.  Next Generation's Jean Luc Picard.  And, of course, Captain James T. Kirk.  But my favorite article has to be the one focusing on Futurama lunatic Zapp Brannigan. which points to all the Trek inspirations behind the blowhard.  It's all well-known, obvious stuff but enjoyable nonetheless.

On his blog Your Nice New Outfit, Comic Book artist Phil Noto is at it again with the Trek Love.  Han Solo as Captain Kirk?  Chewbacca as Mugatu?  Blasphemous?  Not for Trek Fans!  Of course Han Solo and Chewbacca wish they were as cool as Kirk and the Mugatu.  We all wish we were Kirk & Mugatu (hmmmm, that sounds like the makings for an excellent cop show).  Anyway, it time we saw some Star Wars mixed up in Trek.   We had to deal with Shatner popping up in that Lucas lovefest Fanboys.

Kirk Gets Laid Again! Pin-Up Art

Comic book artist Phil Noto (Danger Girl, Wonder Woman) just posted this striking image on his blog Your Nice New Outfit.  He notes, "RED ALERT!  A little Trek for you on this Monday morning complete with the old sexy blur look :)"  Thank you good sir!  Of course, I just love how this speaks to Kirk's rampant conquesting.  Cheese, but beautiful pin-up cheese.

Shatner on Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Extra Long Version

Thanks to Comic Book Movie for hipping this cat to the above video.  There's a lot of hate floating around internetland for The Motion Picture, but I personally love the film.  It's long--way long--and it's not the Trek flick you're constantly popping into the player, but when you have the time and desire I feel that The Motion Picture can be quite rewarding.  It's about exploring the unknown.  It's not a punch up, it's a discovery.  That's what was so great about the idea of TOS.  And it's something I'd love to see reintroduced to the new JJ Abrams era.

Glib Shatner on TMP:  "...Ten years later you get tired scoring all that time...i guess he was scoring with all those babes, on the tenth year he gave up and made a movie."

Thoughtful Shatner on TMP:  "the science fiction magic...the theories of science fiction when they're based on some element that is vaguely true carries with it a great deal of force...anything is possible and that's the basis on which Star Trek The Motion Picture works."

Don't be a hater.  When you're in a good, thoughtful mood give The Motion Picture a spin in your player.

Stephen Fry, Klingon!?!?

Whoa, hold on, Stephen Fry was in Washington DC last night performing Klingon Hamlet!?!?  And I Missed It!  Hu'tegh!!!  Apparently, Fry was participating in the annual event from The Washington Shakespeare Company as part of his forthcoming miniseries on language called Planet World.  Hu'tegh!  Hu'Tegh!  Hu'Tegh!  Last year I missed George Takei and now Stephen Fry.  I will definitely not be missing next year.
